This following biography is a personal and unorthodox presentation of my philosophy concerning work, living, as well as my sphere of work experience. Originally from Sept-Iles Québec, I have been living in various GTA Greater Toronto Area communities since 1985. Within the GTA I have lived in Mississauga, Oakville, Toronto, but mostly in Brampton; I know the Greater Toronto Area very well. As I launch this web designer and developer service online I am bringing along 30 years of work experience.
My 30 years of experience was gathered from a very diverse range of fields of employment. Combined, they have qualified me to proceed confidently into this chosen self-employment field of Internet Information Technology as a web designer. I have first hand experience in how many different industries operate. It provides me with an appreciation of general everyday business requirements. 30 years of challenges in various work place environments has lead me into a sphere of ataraxis. I am well prepared to assist you with your small business web designer requirements.
If you have read through some of the pages of this website before landing here you are probably aware of my “straight forward no fluff presentations” in Internet information technology topics I discuss. I want to maintain that philosophy here on my biography page while painting a picture of who I am as an individual behind my written words. I want you to know that my work as a web designer and developer does not define who I am. It is simply my strength as a soul with a highly analytical mind. I thrive on extracting order out of chaos. Working as a web designer developer fulfills this intense natural inclination.
Before beginning my present work as a Toronto web designer developer I spent 8 years in various IT project work roles. Prior to that my various industry backgrounds began way back in 1980 with four years in security at the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Sept-Iles Québec. During that time I also devoted time to commercial crab fishing in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. If you've ever watched the Deadly Catch series on Discovery Channel -- it builds a solid foundation of character! The ocean didn't succeed in claiming me so then I moved here to Brampton in 1985. I earned my Private Pilot Licence in 1986 from the Brampton Flight Centre in Brampton Ontario. My intention was to earn my Commercial Pilot's Licence to fly bush planes back in my hometown wilderness region but alas, life kept happening. After obtaining my private licence I remained with Brampton Flight Centre for a year as a maintenance department employee as a ramp attendant. There I learned much about the mechanical aspects of small planes as I worked with Aircraft Maintenance Engineers on a daily basis. As I worked at building my flying hours for my commercial licence requirements the sky tried numerous times to claim me so I got my feet back on solid ground. It wasn't without receiving benefit of more character building experiences!
I eventually decided if I was going to be in moving vehicles all day long I didn't want them to be on water or in the air. I then went into 10 years of truck driving with United Parcel Service in Mississauga and Purolator in Mississauga. I spent two and a half years of work with UPS primarily in Mississauga. During that time I learned some very valuable time management skills in that role. I left UPS in 1989 and went to work for a similar company; Purolator Courier. I stayed at Purolator Courier for over seven years working entirely throughout Mississauga; as a Utility Driver in later years. I preferred the challenge of showing up each day at about 7AM not knowing what route I would be assigned to. It was dependent on what route was not covered that day for various reasons.
Solid ground got boring so back I went into the wilderness of my hometown region of eastern Québec near Labrador. Once again it was back to the ocean, secluded lakes and into raw wild lands just south of the Labrador border for two more years from 1995-1997. There is an interesting article about this Québec / Labrador region named a North Woods Passage written in a New York Times article if it piques your curiosity.
Life kept happening; back to Brampton Ontario in 1997 where I spent some time in construction as a general labourer and equipment operator with ConCreate USL Ltd in Bolton Ontario. Then came a shift away from blue collar work to two years of various functional and administrative roles at a charity named Childhope Foundation Canada that was based in Brampton but is now in Mississauga. It was during this time frame that computers piqued my curiosity. I remember thinking; wow if only I can figure out a way to earn my living using these things. So it was off to college as a mature student (old guy) in 1999 and I emerged as a Programmer Analyst / Internet Solutions Developer.
I then entered contract IT jobs for 8 years leading up to now. It all began with a 1 year contract at Raytheon Highway Transportation Management Systems in Woodbridge Ontario where I worked with a team on the 407ETR in Toronto installing as well as configuring computer controlled electronic toll collection systems. The 407ETR work was a fascinating experience. Have a peek at some technical support job photos if it interests you.
After fulfilling my Raytheon contract work I landed at Compaq Computers which eventually merged with HP Business & IT Services in Mississauga. I worked at University Health Network in Toronto where I was on the IMAC team for two and a half years. My role was installs, moves, adds, and changes to more than 7000 networked computer systems. This network of computers was spread across four hospitals. I divided time between Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, as well as Mount Sinai Hospital. Along comes SARS, away I go -- the ocean didn't get me, the sky didn't get me, eight hours a day in city traffic didn't get me, sure as heck I wasn't going to let a microscopic bug get me!
When I stopped running I found myself sitting in a call centre cubicle. There I fulfilled a brief bilingual English / French Windows technical support contract role at SNC Lavalin Profac in Etobicoke. Duties were to support a Public Works Government Services Canada contract roll-out from coast to coast. Besides bilingual English / French technical support work I was also assigned a task of coordinating installation of hundreds of telephone and fax lines in various Government of Canada facilities from coast to coast. Trivia; did you know Thunder Bay Ontario has their own municipal owned telephone company? It is the only such in Canada that I'm now aware of.
After fulfilling my contract obligations at SNC Lavalin ProFac I landed in a Junior Bilingual Programmer role. This was at a Bridgestone Firestone subsidiary named GCR Tire Centers in Mississauga. Duties were to be learning a programming language that I had not previously had exposure to (Q Basic) as well as Windows programming. In addition to programming work I also provided bilingual English / French technical support for POS point-of-sale retail locations throughout eastern Canada. Events did not turn out as expected. After a brief stay with them I was once again moving on.
My last contract work prior to deciding to begin working for myself was with Siemens Service Desk Solutions in Mississauga where I fulfilled a role of Bilingual English / French Technical Support Analyst. There I provided call centre telephone assistance to consumers as well as businesses concerning hardware issues for a prominent laptop manufacturer.
My purpose is to now apply my Internet information technology knowledge through my designer and development work. I want to help those who are working for a greater good. As I write this I am a one person operation therefore my resources are limited. Preference will be given to individuals or small businesses who provide us with “necessary necessities”, whether goods or services, while earning their wages. If your purpose or mission is purely consumer commercialism then regretfully I cannot help you.
In my opinion, today's world of commerce has become a very impersonal, cold, calculating; driven by excessive greed and corruption. Many individuals and companies misrepresent their products or services; existing for themselves. Their goal is to earn as much money in as short a time as possible. They will run over whoever gets in their way, including their customers. Their motto is typically “I only have one life to live so I am going to take everything I can get my hands on”. I want to be part of a movement of change that we so desperately need to see evolve out of our present day society. As by example in spite of being capable of operating boats, planes, cars or trucks my preferred choice of transportation is now a bicycle!
My need to see change was heightened beginning in 2006 when I experienced a spontaneous Kundalini Awakening. It is an experience I had never heard of or had any concept of. It took quite a few months to figure out what I was experiencing and witnessing. But that's a whole other story for another time and place. It resulted in a temporary retreat from the workforce to re-evaluate my path. Now, I am eagerly diving back into information technology. I thrive on mind challenges. Working with computer algorithmic logic provides that opportunity. I now have a whole new understanding and appreciation of who we are as well as where we are in our evolution of consciousness.
The very foundation of my daily duties now revolves around my philosophy of “we are eternal souls on an evolutionary journey”. For me it is a journey of our evolution of consciousness. I know that every seed (thought or action) we sow determines how our collective Garden of Eden will grow. Eventually, those who are “living their one life” or living for the day, will receive a day's worth of labourer wages. A labourers' share of wages does not last long. They will have to go back to performing dharma in fields of trials and tribulations (reincarnate). Or as a more popular trustworthy source phrases it; “He that shall overcome, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God: and he shall go out no more”. I believe that those who are respectfully aware of their every thought or action as well as how it affects lives of souls they cross paths with; they are the ones who are “overcoming”.
My philosophy is that life long learning, until we take our last breath, is important because it continues to build the foundation of our souls. Whether that learning comes from struggles in day to day existence, through academic teachings, or through a school of hard knocks, it is not in vain. Our daily struggles and efforts, as well as how we react to them do not go unnoticed. I am a firm believer that these combined experiences determine who we are becoming.
I have now reached a point where I need to have total control over my day to day duties. It will grant me flexible time to study My Self as I realize I am not a self I thought I was! There are no peg board holes that I fit into. Self-employment is my only means of accomplishing this requirement. Though I will not allow my job to consume me I am very dedicated to every project I undertake. I believe in doing things right or else not at all. Namaste.
